Research Enabling Environment
SANParks’ scientists collaborate with researchers from around the world to work on a wide range of research objectives and priorities specific to national parks, protected areas, or those which are in the national interest.
In order to attract a sensible mix of basic and applied research across the biophysical and social research spectrum, we support networking and encourage collaboration. Strong ties with local and international universities, conservation bodies, research partners such as the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) and research funders such as the AW Mellon Foundation, strengthen our research and monitoring efforts and promote capacity building for the future.
We strive to create a “research-enabling” environment to support registration of new research projects, supply baseline data and provide logistical support as far as possible. In the kind of work we do, it is essential to manage data effectively and to ensure that knowledge feedback systems are in place. Our growing data and metadata systems acquire and store information from completed projects.
